So, I thought I would see what the hubbub was all about with the blog thing for myself. I have always been familiar with it, but never understood it's actions and power (at least for the writer) until I saw "Julie and Julia". A friend of mine started one to vent and rant and just get things out there and I thought it was a great idea! (Thanks Finesse). I don't think I will rant (much) and I don't think I will rave (much), but I would love to just "get things out there" and have some fun with it! I will not ask permission nor apologize for anything I say here-it's just my outpouring and maybe some insight on my experiences livin' in the mountains and trying to make a go of it.
My hubby and I have not been Mountain Livin' long, but we are enjoying it. The winters are long, the summers are not long enough. I am learn about growing my own food, perfecting the preserving of it and making EXTENSIVE notes so as not to make the same mistakes twice. I have discovered that IT'S NOT EASY! And that's okay-I'm not lazy, but I don't have the energy of a certain 30 year-old friend and fellow blogger. She is amazing-the greenest thumb ON THE PLANET and a great friend. I thought I knew about growing things-NOT. But I am getting schooled every day and tucking that good stuff away for later use. She recently got some chickens, whoo hoo! I have always wanted chickens too, but hmmm, after reading and seeing her experiences first hand, I think I will wait a bit and get my 800 projects that are in the works finished, and then bite off more. I have visions of a huge garden, root cellar chock-full of goodness, an extensive pantry, a greenhouse and a brand-new kitchen!
My hunter (hubby), not to be confused with the gatherer (me), is very supportive, but "lets" me take care of the green thumb, get-dirty-in-the-garden and collect-the-good-stuff-for-supper side of things. Although, I have to tell you he loves to help me with canning. We are going to can corn Saturday and Sunday (about 400 to 600 ears to start) and we are both very excited about it.
Let you know how it goes....
